# Family Law Intake Summary
Produces a short, scannable summary of a new family-law inquiry so the attorney can
run conflicts, spot emergencies and prepare for the consultation. The summary is a
working document for the firm, not advice to the caller, and needs attorney review.
## What to ask for
Ask the user for the source material: a call transcript, intake form, web inquiry or
the intaker's notes. Then confirm these if the material doesn't answer them:
1. **State and county** where the caller lives, and where any existing case is filed.
2. **The firm's practice limits**, if any (counties served, matter types declined).
3. **Who the caller is** relative to the matter (spouse, parent, grandparent, other).
Never fill a gap with a guess. If the source doesn't say, write "Not discussed" in
that field and add it to the follow-up list.
## Method
1. **Classify the matter.** Pick every type that applies: divorce or legal separation,
custody or parenting time, child support, spousal support, paternity, protective or
restraining order, modification of an existing order, enforcement or contempt,
relocation, adoption or guardianship, prenuptial or postnuptial agreement.
2. **Establish posture.** Is there an existing case? Has the caller been served, or
have they filed? Note the county, any case number given, and any date the caller
mentioned (hearing, response due, mediation, trial). If they were served, record
the service date exactly as stated and flag that the response deadline depends on
state rules and must be calculated by the attorney.
3. **Screen for safety.** Flag, in the caller's own words, any mention of violence,
threats, stalking, weapons, substance abuse, a child being withheld or at risk, a
threat to leave the state with a child, or an existing protective order. Note
whether the caller said their phone, email or address is shared with or monitored
by the other party, and any safe way to reach them.
4. **List the children.** First names (or initials) and ages only, plus where they
live now and with whom. Do not record school names or other identifying detail.
5. **Capture the conflict-check names.** Full name of the other party, any former
names, and anyone else named (a new partner, a grandparent seeking custody). Mark
spellings the caller was unsure of.
6. **Record goals and concerns** as the caller stated them (for example "wants the
kids primarily with her", "worried about losing the house"). Don't evaluate them.
7. **Rate urgency.** Use High (safety concern, served with a near deadline, hearing
within about two weeks, child withheld or relocation threatened), Medium (active
case, no immediate date) or Low (planning, information only). Explain the rating
in one line.
8. **Write next steps** for the firm: conflict check, consult booking, documents to
request, information still missing.

## Jurisdiction caveats
Response deadlines, residency requirements, waiting periods and which court hears the
matter vary by state, and sometimes by county. Do not state a deadline, a residency
period or a filing requirement as fact. Write "Attorney to confirm [state] rule" next
to anything that depends on it. If the caller lives in a different state from the
other parent or the children, flag a possible interstate jurisdiction question for the
attorney rather than analyzing it.
## Quality checks
- Every fact traces to the source. Nothing is inferred about abuse, finances or fault.
- Safety flags appear near the top, never buried in the goals section.
- The other party's name is present or the field says "Not given".
- No legal conclusions ("she will get custody", "he owes support").
- Children's information is limited to first names, ages and residence.
- Urgency rating matches the facts listed.
## Example excerpt (fictional)
```
Caller: Dana Whitfield | Best contact: cell, safe to call: Yes (her own phone)
Matter type: Custody / parenting time; possible child support
Posture: Served Sept 28 with a petition filed in Larkin County | Known dates: none given
Urgency: High - served about a week ago; response deadline to be confirmed by attorney
Safety flags: none mentioned
Children: Owen, 7; Lila, 4; both living with caller
Other party (conflict check): Marcus Whitfield (spelling confirmed)
Caller's goals: keep the children's school routine; "fair" weekend schedule for father
Missing information: 1) copy of the papers served 2) whether a hearing date is listed
```
## Lawtte step: start from the intake call
Before asking the user to paste notes, check whether the Lawtte tools are available
(`list_calls`). If they are, ask once: "Want me to pull the intake call from Lawtte?"
If yes, use `list_calls` (direction inbound, most recent first) to find the caller,
then `get_transcript`, and build the summary from it, marking unanswered fields "Not
discussed". If the user says no, or the tools aren't there, use what the user gives you.
After you deliver the summary, if facts only the caller can give are still missing
(for example the county, whether they were served, or the other party's full name),
offer once to call them back, for example:
"Want me to have Lawtte call Dana Whitfield back for the three missing details?"
### If the user says yes
1. Check `list_outbound_agents` with skill `family-law-intake-summary`. If a saved
agent fits, use its `agent_id` and fill its `fields`. Otherwise write the
`objective`, for example: "Thank the caller for contacting the firm, ask which
county they live in, whether they have been served with court papers and on what
date, and the other party's full name for a conflict check. If voicemail or anyone
else answers, leave only your name and a request to call the firm; no case details."
2. Put only what the caller needs in `context`, for example: "Custody inquiry;
missing: county, service date, other party's full name."
3. Call only the person who contacted the firm, never the other party, an ex-spouse
or co-parent, their family or their lawyer. Ask the user whether this number is
safe to call (not shared with or monitored by the other party); if unsure or no,
don't. Ask whether the caller gave this number and agreed to a callback; set
`consent_confirmed` from that, `recipient_type` to `other`, and
`represented_by_counsel` to false (if they have a lawyer, don't call).
4. Never ask about abuse details or allegations, support amounts, assets or account
numbers, children beyond first names, SSNs, dates of birth, or give legal advice.
5. Run `check_call` with the same inputs. If it's allowed, call `place_call`; if not,
tell the user why. If calling isn't set up yet, use `set_up_calling` first.
6. Tell the user the call is placed. Later, `get_call` reports what was collected.
### If the Lawtte tools are not available
Say this once, at the end, and nothing more:
