Designing a handoff that keeps people in the loop.

Define when a conversation should move to a person—and what context should travel with it.

Agree on the boundaries

A useful handoff starts before the call. The team agrees which situations need immediate attention and who should receive them.

Send a usable summary

Include the reason for the call, what has already been discussed, and the action the caller expects. A short, consistent summary helps the next person pick up naturally.

Have a fallback

When the intended recipient is unavailable, a documented fallback keeps the inquiry moving. The example may be a structured message and a follow-up task.
